Here are our top 7 spices from India and Pakistan that you should try in your food today.

Cardamom

Cardamom is a staple in Indian and Pakistani cuisine, and it’s easy to see why.  The two types of cardamom are black and green, each offering unique flavours that work well in different dishes.  Black cardamom is exotic and has a smoky flavour. It’s a powerful spice that can be an excellent addition to a comforting dish.

Green cardamom is light and almost sweet, with fresh notes that work well in sweet dishes or desserts.  Regardless of how you use cardamom, you’re going to notice a difference in your meal! Cardamom is a great way to spice up your life!

Cumin

Another common spice, cumin is an excellent addition as it adds a nice smoky taste and fragrance to your meals.  We recommend using freshly ground cumin as it brings out maximum flavour and fragrance. We only use fresh ingredients here at BBQ Villa, and you’ll be able to tell by the rich and wonderful flavour that cumin provides.

Coriander

One of the oldest spices in cooking history, coriander is a wonderfully flavourful and diverse spice that can be used in a lot of different meals.  It’s known for its light citrus flavour and aroma and is commonly used as a foundation for many Indian dishes. We recommend dry roasting coriander to bring out its best flavours.

Turmeric

We love turmeric in our cooking because it can be used in so many different ways.  What makes turmeric so great is that it can be used both fresh and dry, with each way producing slightly different flavours.  It’s a complex spice that really has a lot to offer. It is also said that turmeric has wonderful health properties – we just love it for its earthy fragrance and warm flavour!

Saffron

Saffron is an extremely exotic spice that isn’t nearly as common as the other spices on this list.  It is a very high-end spice that can produce many different flavours. It’s known for its beautiful deep red colour and its unique flavours.  This spice can be used in many different dishes, making it an incredibly adaptable spice.

Garam Masala

Masala is one of the most recognisable spices from the reason, and it’s easy to see why – it’s also one of the most delicious!  We have quite a few masala dishes that are rich in flavour and bring warmth to anyone who eats it. It’s a staple in Indian and Pakistani food and can be easily used in meals you make in your own home!

Paprika

Another common household spice, Paprika is a favourite here at BBQ Villa.  Indian paprika is traditionally mild and can often be sweet. It’s known for its rich red colour and is often used to add a splash of colour to foods – not to mention, it’s incredibly flavourful!

A simple way to spice up your life is to add spice to your foods!  If you’ve never had any of these spices in your meals before, we encourage you to stop at BBQ Villa – “The only Pakistani Restaurant in Melbourne CBD today to try them.  We look forward to seeing you soon.
